Delete your data
In short
- There is no myGeeKy account and no myGeeKy server, so there is nothing for us to delete: we hold no data about you.
- Everything myGeeKy keeps is in places you own: your phone, your computers and, only if you turned them on, two repositories in your own GitHub account.
- You can delete all of it yourself, at any time, with the steps below. Nothing is kept after you do.
1. On your phone
- Start over (You → Settings → Start over) erases everything myGeeKy keeps on the phone: your settings, history, caches, sign-in, tokens and this phone's Signals key.
- Uninstalling the app does the same: Android removes the app's private storage and its secure keys with it.
2. On your computers
- In the panel, open ⚙ → Uninstall… (or run
mygeeky uninstall) and tick My data on this computer and My saved tokens and Signals key. That deletes your settings, CV text, scholarly profile, history, model and caches, and removes myGeeKy's entries from your system keyring. - Or delete the folders yourself: on Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\mygeekyand%LOCALAPPDATA%\mygeeky-local; on macOS~/Library/Application Support/mygeekyandmygeeky-localbeside it; on Linux~/.local/share/mygeeky,~/.local/share/mygeeky-localand~/.config/mygeeky. - Do this on every computer you used myGeeKy on.
3. In your GitHub account
myGeeKy never asks for permission to delete repositories, so these steps are done on GitHub, signed in as you.
- Your private sync repository (usually
mygeeky-data, only if you turned sync on): open it on GitHub → Settings → Delete this repository. It holds your settings, CV text, scholarly profile and history. - Your public beacon (
mygeeky-beacon, only if you turned Signals on): delete it the same way. Your status, interest tags, calls and the signals you sent disappear from everyone's myGeeKy. (The panel's Uninstall can also withdraw the beacon first and opens both repositories' settings pages for you.) - Tokens: revoke the ones you made for myGeeKy in Settings → Personal access tokens.
- Sign in with GitHub: revoke myGeeKy in Settings → Applications → Authorized OAuth Apps.
4. Things you posted yourself
- Ideas, published protocols and crash reports are public GitHub issues you submitted with your own account. You can edit or delete them on GitHub, or email us to remove them.
- If you asked OpenAlex for a free key, the email address went to OpenAlex only; ask them to remove it. Sign in with ORCID keeps nothing: ORCID lists myGeeKy under your account's Trusted parties, where you can remove it.
- If you emailed support@mygeeky.org, ask us and we delete your messages.
What stays
Nothing that is about you. myGeeKy's public lists (jobs, funding, conferences, protocols, datasets) are the same for everyone and hold nothing about you. Signals others sent you live, encrypted to you, in their own beacons, and expire after 90 days. See the privacy policy for everything myGeeKy reads and where it keeps it.
